CHAPTER FOUR

It wasn’t long before Bruce received a call from Michael. It was going on five in the morning but he did not doubt that his friend had worked on the problem all night. “Hey, Michael, find anything interesting or useful?”

“Yes I do believe I have some things you could threaten him with.” He chuckled

“Tell me more.”

“Brief history.” He began “He inherited Frost Realty from his father Abraham Frost when he was twenty five. He has been running the agency ever since as the broker and owner. He has three children all boys, Lincoln being the youngest, the oldest being a set of twins Danny and Jimmy.” Bruce knew some of the information already, but did not interrupt. “The interesting part of that story is that they don’t all have the same mother. Danny and Jimmy were the children of Adam and Gloria Frost and Lincoln’s mother was Audrey Van Leuven.”

“I wonder what that means.” Bruce interjected.

“I did a little digging and it turns out that Gloria Frost died in an auto accident when the twins were just eight years old. Adam then took up with a local woman Audrey and after about a year of dating she became pregnant. It was kept hushed up, she was even sent away to another state for the duration of the pregnancy and birth. Adam had no desire to marry the woman so paid her off. Audrey Van Leuven signed over all custody to Adam in exchange for one hundred thousand dollars. Adam presented the child as the son of a relative who died and he was doing to honorable thing by taking him in and making him his own son.”

“I don’t think Lincoln is aware of any of this. He told me last night that his mother died in a car accident. I think the whole family has been lying to him for years. But there is nothing illegal about a mistress or a bastard child.” Bruce wasn’t sure what he could do with this information.

“Audrey Van Leuven sold Adam Frost the baby. I have all the paperwork. It isn’t legal in any state to sell your baby.” Michael pointed out.

“Where is Audrey now?”

“Dead, she died two years ago from breast cancer.”

“Wow for a man who demands family loyalty and strict morality from others he tends to fall a bit short himself.” Bruce mulled over the information.

“I also found out that the real estate company isn’t his only business holding. He owns the Red light bar and strip club located just outside city limits. He has kept it a secret by burying it under an alias, but you know me, I can find anything. I think that will be your ace in the hole when you go for intimidation. He pretends to be a strict Catholic, even attending mass every Sunday. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want the parishioners knowing of his connection to the hated after-hours club.” Michael finished with a well-earned hardy laugh.

“You did well my friend, I owe you.” Bruce pledged.
